As a peace activist, it is important to me to mention that music is the true Esperanto. Music is the connecting language. Everyone can do it, because everyone has music within them, regardless of origin, skin color, religion, language, gender and age. It is the obvious means of entering into a peaceful and positive dialogue with foreign people and cultures.
Music as a live performance is the art form that combines so many things. Music moves in the field of tension between composition and improvisation, between the well-known and those created from impulse. It depends on the composition of the musicians, their mood of the day, the location and the audience and thus gives an insight into the psychological state of a group of people who share and create a moment. It happens in real time: As soon as it’s there, it’s gone forever. It only happens in the here and now, like life anyway. That’s what makes it so exciting for me to devote myself to this art form.
Furthermore, music is a look into the past, because the musician’s entire past, both as a person with history and as a craft acquired through years of persistent practice, wants to be brought to life in a moment of the present based on an emotional impulse. Music is a sounding melange of biographies, places and emotions brought into present.
But the most important thing: It’s just fun to play music with different people!
